I did fit the P226 mag in the P228 and the P228 mag in the P226 and they seem to function fine except I have not tried to shoot them yet. The P226 mag is a Mec-Gar 20 rd and it is stamped P226 and the P228 mag is an 18 rd Mec-Gar and is stamped P228.

My P228 has very light trigger pull in SA which requires a little more concentration to avoid unwanted double taps. Also it’s something to keep in mind if ever in a defensive situation.

The p228 has a stamped slide. Other then that they are the basically the same. I have p229 in 357 sig along with a 40sw barrel. It is very accurate in both calibers.
