I've caught more than a dozen 5 to 6 pound bass and couple of 2-3 pound smallies. over the years the fishing pressure has pushed the bass deeper and deeper. It is not unusual to mark suspended bass at 40 ft.
Big John's Planner board mast or Bert's tackle

网页2016年3月4日 — Have had good catches down by the boat ramp in Starved Rock. There is a big pile of rocks out there. Actually it is huge. Just check it out when water level is really low. In Ottawa try under the bridge. Have done well there where the fox comes into the Illinois. Work from there down the concrete sidewalk on the Illinois.

There are a series of limestone cliffs on the 113 side of the river. Each has its own deep water holes and drop offs, with undercut areas. Water is 8-15ft, depending on river levels.

This is a little different than casting along the shoreline up in Northern Wisconsin, there I prefer to listen to the natural surroundings around me.

You can fish on the LAKE SIDE of the lake-fill, but not the pond side. They get very mad if you fish the pond side.
